Stepps Sunday Club
The Sunday club meets at 10.50 every Sunday during term time. Children from age 3 up to and including those in Primary 6 are welcome to join us. Every June we have a moving up celebration where children about to start Primary 7 leave us and are welcomed into the Bible Class.
A typical Sunday involves a welcome meeting at 10.50 in the main Church hall. We then join the congregation in the Church at 11.00 for around 15 minutes before returning to the main hall for our Club. We start with everyone together discussing the topic of the day. Then we move into smaller groups each of which has 1 or 2 dedicated leaders depending on the group size and the children’s ages. We have about 20 children on our roll at present.
Our current groups are pre-school led by Lynda, Primary 1 to Primary 4 led by Esther and Jackie and Primary 5 and 6 led by Anne and David. All the leaders are members of the PVG scheme.
In their groups the children explore the day’s topic through storytelling, drama, arts and crafts and worksheets. We use Roots for Children and Young people as our learning resource.
Esther, one of Sunday Club leaders also organises a Summer Holiday Club, for the children and their friends to come along and have some fun. It runs for 1 week during the school holidays between 9.30 -12. This year we also had a family BBQ one evening as part of the Holiday Club and we hope to continue this in 2016.
Highlights of the last year have been taking part in the Christmas parade around Stepps where we recreated Mary’s journey on the donkey and presenting out Lenten cross to the congregation on Palm Sunday.
In previous years we have organised an outward bound weekend for our older children at Rock UK as well as soft play afternoons for our younger members.
The Sunday Club is for all children and their friends, not just the children of Church members and we offer a warm if somewhat noisy welcome to any child or young person who wishes to join us.
